A Day on the Strawberry Farm

I'm not sure if there is anything more beautiful or peaceful than the quaint farms and orchards in rural Virginia. Well, I am sure there are a lot of things that come close, but you get the point. It's gorgeous this time of year. Kevin, little sis, and I drove about 45 minutes South to Miller Farms to pick strawberries not too long ago. We were told that they were pretty picked over, but at only $1/pound we decided to go for it anyway. I think they were trying to keep all the strawberries for themselves because they were not picked over in the least bit! It took us about a half hour to pick over 30 pounds of delicious, bright red, juicy strawberries. We have been to many of the berry farms in the area, but never there. I will be going back soon for blackberries! This place is seriously adorable.

Don't you just want to eat these? KK (my sister) and I ate so many.

Creepy looking mill. Something about this reminded me of the place in Rexburg, Idaho where there is the haunted mill at Halloween. I hated that place.

In here you can buy cute, vintage baskets and what-nots for picking!

Ended the picking festivities with an ice cold old fashioned soda.

The best part is what we did with the strawberries:
homemade jam
strawberry sorbet
strawberry popsicles
frozen puree and whole strawberries for smoothies etc.

  1. Those strawberries look absolutely DIVINE! Holy cow. SO yummy!!

And I totally agree with you, I hated the Haunted Mill in Rexburg. I swear I almost peed my pants every time I was forced to go and I seriously hated it every minute. Cool picture, creepy place!
